Beating the Bullies
Lincoln City FC Sport & Education Trust delivered a workshop to pupils at Our Lady of Lincoln Catholic Primary as part of Anti-Bullying Week (November 2010). The workshop kicked off by challenging pupils’ perceptions of bullying which led to an open and wide-ranging discussion on many different forms of bullying.
Miss Turner, Year 5 teacher at the school, commented, “The start-up activity really opened up the childrens’ eyes to the many different forms of bullying, and helped them realise that everyone has strengths in different areas.” The workshop then continued by challenging pupils to create their own unique football teams, building on individual strengths. “We all thoroughly enjoyed creating a football team,” continued Miss Turner. “The outcome was that it made us take a different outlook on how people can be perceived.” The pupils also loved this activity. One Year 6 child said; “I hadn’t really thought about how different strengths can help a team until we played this game today.”
During the afternoon session, Imps first team player Gavin McCallum dropped in to meet pupils and join in the teambuilding games. He was also quizzed on his experiences of bullying and he openly shared his feelings on this important subject. “The children loved meeting Gavin during the day. It was a fantastic experience and the whole day will be one they can remember for a long time to come,” added Miss Turner.
Miss McGinty, project coordinator at the school, commented, “The delivery and content of the workshop was perfect for Keystage 2, particularly those with a love of football. The workshop was delivered by enthusiastic staff from Lincoln City FC Sport & Education Trust which made it fun, thought provoking and relevant. Thank you for a wonderful day.”
